Royal Rumble 2009
Shelton Benjamin is out next.
William Regal is entrant 21. Regal goes to work on CM Punk, continuing their storyline. The Undertaker is working over Shelton Benjamin in the corner. Mark Henry was eliminated by Rey Mysterio as we had to be shown a replay as the camera missed it.
Kofi Kingston is entrant number 22 as he goes to work on everyone in the ring with drop kicks.
The Undertaker eliminates Shelton Benjamin as it appears Undertaker is busted open.

Shelton To Feud With MVP???
MVP is optimistic the victory on Smackdown this past week will transition into some better opportunities on TV, especially concerning Shelton Benjamin and the U.S. Title. A chance to work as a babyface and incorporate more moves into his matches would be ideal, he says.
"As a heel, you do a lot of meat-chopping so to speak, but there's a very realistic possibility Shelton Benjamin and I might have a feud in the very near future," said MVP, who added that Shelton and he worked house show matches recently and they just went out there and wrestled. He hopes they can bring that to a TV feud.

House Show - 18th Jan 2009
Shelton Benjamin beat R-Truth to retain the U.S. Title. Good, solid match. Before the match, R-Truth came through the crowd and came right in front of me in my section. Very cool entrance. I liked the match quite a bit.

SD Result - Friday 9th January 2009
SHELTON BENJAMIN vs. THE UNDERTAKER
Benjamin used his speed to try to hit-and-run. He was able to corner Taker a few times and pound away with fists. Taker turned the tide and went to work on the left arm/shoulder of Shelton. Taker went Old School on the arm he had been working on of Shelton’s. Crowd finally popped for that after being dead for much of the show thus far. Taker clotheslined Shelton over the top rope as they went to break.
[Commercial Break]
Undertaker continued his work on Shelton’s arm out of break. Snake Eyes by The Deadman, but he missed the running boot and Shelton wisely took out the leg of Taker. He writhed on the mat in pain. Benjamin showed his aggressiveness in punching away at Taker as well as working on the leg. Taker grabbed Shelton by the throat out of nowhere, but he couldn’t hit the Goozle; Benjamin went back to work on the leg. Shelton put Taker’s leg on the rope so he could work on it more, but Taker, from the floor, pushed Shelton over the top rope with his OTHER leg. Taker gained control on the outside, but Benjamin put a stop to that with another shot to the leg. Benjamin did the ten-punch count in the corner, but Taker walked out with Shelton in the Last Ride position. Shelton squirmed out and DDT’d Taker. He got two. Blinger Splash in the corner, but the second one was blocked by a Taker chokeslam for a near-fall. Overhand rights by Taker. Shelton tried to hop over Taker in the corner, but The Dead Man caught him and gave him a Tombstone for the win.
WINNER: Undertaker, at 12:34. Good match: Shelton’s athleticism gelled well with Taker’s ground-and-pound style.

Smackdown Report - 2nd January 2008
Jim Ross tells us that the man who is not ducked and boosted over the top rope will win the match and go to the main event of Wrestlemania and point to the sign. Triple H, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, and Shelton Benjamin are announced.
Shelton Benjamin comes out and he wants to interject. He wants to know what is wrong with Jim Ross. He is not to be introduced as a participant, he should be announced as the odds-on favorite to win the Royal Rumble. Shelton tells Jim that he should take his leave from the ring. Shelton says that he has been the United States Champion for six months and he will leave Wrestlemania as the World Champion. He is the Gold Standard for a reason. Nobody in the Royal Rumble can compare to him. He does not care if it is Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Fit Finlay, or R-Truth because there is no one who compares.
There is a voice from the TitanTron and the Undertaker’s bell rings and he is in the ring after the lights go out and back on. Taker with a choke slam and then he poses. I guess Taker is in the Rumble match. We go to commercial.

2008 HITS
The Gold Standard: Shelton Benjamin has been one of those guys who has been around for quite awhile, had some early success, but then found himself in WWE mid-card (at best) limbo. After his early singles career success and multiple runs as Intercontinental Champ, Benjamin was pushed to the back burner. But this year, he went to ECW, then to Smackdown, dawned the Gold Standard gimmick, and became the United States Champion. It was the first Title that he won in a long time, and he deserved it. His mic work still needs to improve, but it is better now than a year ago. His in ring skills have gotten better as he seems more intense in the ring and more focused. As of the end of 2008, he is still the US Champ, and hopefully he will continue to get a push in the New Year.
